ROTARY MN VETS CLUB MTG - January 14
Our January Club Meeting will be held Thursday, January 14 from 7-8pm.  In addition to some club business our program is the Silent Warrior Project

The Silent Warrior Project is a non-profit organization that serves veterans who struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Military Sexual Trauma (MST). This organization hosts spiritual retreats for veterans and provide tools to help them reduce stress through a daily practice of mindfulness meditation and contemplative prayer. By helping veterans fully re-engage in their lives and be present with their loved ones, this brings about hope. And healing.  The Silent Warrior Project seeks to be the best resource for veterans with PTSD and MST and their families by educating, speaking truth and leading change.

MISSION: To reduce veteran suicide rates and help veterans mindfully heal from the wounds of war.

It is time to do it again!
Participate in our 4th Rotary Club of MN Veterans / Red Cross Blood Drive

During COVID-19 the need is even greater... and our club has stepped up over and over again. Hosting blood drives began after a presentation from the Red Cross at a club meeting. Our first drive was the initial week of the MN pandemic stay at home executive order in March. While other drives cancelled due to fear, our vets showed up to serve others.

Let's do it again. EXCITING NEWS: all appointments are already booked! Walk-ins are no longer allowed during blood drives per Red Cross COVID distancing guidelines. However, if you volunteer, if there are no-shows you can donate blood in their place. Will you volunteer to provide a smooth running drive to provide blood products for veterans and their families?

Upcoming opportunity to give blood hosted by the Rotary Club of MN Veterans:

St. Peter's - Edina
5421 France Ave S
Edina, MN 55410
Thursday, January 28, 1pm-7pm

CLUB BUSINESS
At our Club Meeting on February 11, we will have two business related matters to address.
  1. Approval of Club Constitution & Bylaw Revisions
  2. Election of a President Elect, Secretary, and Program & Social Chair
In 2020, Rotary International provided new required revisions for the Constitution and Bylaws of Rotary clubs. When our club was chartered, we used the bylaws of our sponsoring club, Edina Morningside, and adopted those for our charter.  Since that time, our club board has worked on a unique mission with accompanying values as well as settling into our own organizational structure.  The Board is bringing forward a revision to effectively accomplish this as a young cause-based club.  PLEASE REVIEW THE PROPOSED CONSTITUTION HERE / PROPOSED BYLAWS HERE.  A word of appreciation to Bethany Danner, Doug Kuplic, and Mark Shockey for drafting the revisions.

The Rotary Club of Minnesota Veterans operates with a Board of Directors.  We currently have three open positions that need to be filled. Contact President, Jeff Staads, 715-559-1030 if you are interested in serving or if you would like to nominate another club member for these positions. Here are the responsibilities of the open positions:

President ElectIt shall be the duty of the Vice President/President-Elect to prepare for his or her year in office and to preside at meetings of the Club and the Board in the absence of the president and to perform other duties as ordinarily pertain to the office of vice-president.   This position will become President for the 2022-2023 Rotary year and then serve as the Past President / Foundation Board Liaison the following year.
SecretaryIt shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep membership records; record attendance at meetings; send out notices of Club, Board, and committee meetings; record and preserve the minutes of such meetings; report as required to RI, including the semiannual reports of membership on 1 January and 1 July of each year; and perform other duties as usually pertain to the office of Secretary.  After a year, this position will become President Elect, and then President for the 2023-2024 Rotary year in the 4-year officer rotation.
Program & Social Chair - It shall be the duty of the Program & Social Chair to schedule speakers for meetings and social gatherings for the club. We currently host one regular club meeting a month on the 2nd Thursday and a service event or social on the 4th Thursday of the month. a committee may be formed with other club members to accomplish this responsibility. Chairs serve a 2-year term on the Board.

The approval of the Club Documents requires a quorum and a 2/3 vote to adopt.  The elections require a majority of member votes for the candidate.  The voting will take place on February 11 at our Zoom meeting - please do your best to attend as we must have a quorum of 13 members present.
