Club Service Events
The 2nd Thursday of the month is our regular club meeting.  We continue to meet via Zoom and host speakers to share about veteran efforts.

The 4th week of the month includes a service event.  This week there are two.  Thank you for your service as a Rotarian!
Haven for Heroes Grant Presentation

Join our Rotary Club of MN Veterans Foundation board members as they formally present our Rotary Grant to Haven For Heroes.  In partnership with Rotary International, District 5950, and area Rotary Clubs we are honored to provide a grant of $20,000 to serve veterans by updating and furnishing a family room for years to come.  The Anoka Community has preserved, restored, and provided these historical Cottages and Auditorium for the purpose of helping our veterans. This is a grateful community filled with those who have served, past and present, and civilians who are appreciative, thankful, and eager to give back to our heroes.

The presentation, with media coverage, will take place at 1pm on 25 September, 2020 at the Haven for Heroes campus in Anoka.  Learn more about Haven for Heroes.  The address is 3300 4th Avenue North, Anoka

Club President, Gary and Foundation Chair, Bob will be on hand to make the presentation.  All club members are invited to participate in this event and discover how we can continue to serve other veterans.

The Rotary Club of Minnesota Veterans, through our Foundation, has supported a project in partnership with Orono Rotary and other Rotary clubs.  With a Rotary District Grant, implementation is underway.  Benches are on order with an expected ship date of 10-13-20.  Flags for Heroes kits are on order and awaiting a ship date.  The desire is for an official groundbreaking on Veterans Day 2020.

The Orono Rotary Club identified the Veteran’s Memorial Park as a service project this spring. The club presented the city a grant for $14,500 worth of improvements at the park. The Rotary grant will allow the city to add additional seating and “honor each branch of the military accordingly on the benches.” Some other improvements include adding six reflection benches, and 150 flags to be posted Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day.

Concrete pad excavation and pouring/finishing will require support from each participating club.  Saturday September 26, 2020 is the day we’ve set aside for that effort.  Six 7’ x 3’ pads will need to be located, excavated, framed, poured and finished.  Anyone with concrete experience will be helpful.  I’m asking for 2-3 Rotarians from each of the four supporting clubs (Buffalo, Monticello, Plymouth and MN Veterans) to sign up on our Orono Rotary website.  Go to this link at oronorotary.com to register to help.

Start time is 9:00AM with completion expected by noon.  Park in the lot nearest the water tower.  Plan to bring wheelbarrows, shovels (flat, spade, edging, sand etc) and ANY concrete finish tools.

Thank you to anyone who can participate on this great project.  Contact Bob Keller for more information.

Rotary District Governor to speak 08 October

One of the highlights for Rotary clubs is learning about the bigger picture of Rotary International.  Our Club Founder, Tom Gump, will be present at our next Zoom meeting, 8 October 2020 at 7pm to update and inspire us.  Many of you were personally invited to join Rotary by Tom a year ago.  This meeting will include a virtual celebration of the 1 year anniversary of our Charter as a Rotary Club and a challenge to us as a veterans club to "Service Above Self."

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers
who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change –
across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Tom writes about his club visits, "During conversations with you we have been inspired by your continued active participation in your club meetings; the amazing service and community projects clubs continue to be involved in; your fabulous questions about Rotary’s ongoing efforts to eradicate polio and our new focus area, Environment; and finally, by YOU!  We thoroughly enjoy getting to know you better and to hear stories of why you joined Rotary and why it is important to you."

Tom will also have the privilege of inducting our newest Rotary Club of Minnesota Veterans members virtually.  We look forward to a powerful night together.  Join us at this link.
